Ilocos Norte is a province located north of Metro Manila. Ilocos has various tourist spots such historical sites, famous landmarks, nature sightseeing, fun activities such as a kalesa ride, as well as a taste of the province’s various delicacies. This is suitable for first time visitors since they will also be given insights and historical fun facts about the province’s traditions, culture and other things that only locals would know. They will be taken to restaurants that are cheap yet offer authentic native dishes.

If visitors decide to go on their own instead of availing of Ilocos tour package it will have more than enough things to offer whether you are a millennial who is looking for fast-paced action or a retiree who just wants to enjoy the sights and immerse themselves in the province’s culture and history.

Here are some activities that will surely make your visit to
 Ilocos Norte memorable and enjoyable.

1. Paoay Church - A UNESCO World Heritage SIte

St. Augustine’s Church in Paoay – Also known as Paoay Church, whether you are a religious person or not, this church is definitely a sight to behold and is by far one of the most visited tourist destinations in Ilocos.  Aside from its enormous size, it offers Spanish-era architecture and is properly maintained while still retaining its solemn atmosphere.  This church has also been used several times in the filming of some Philippine movies.
2. Bangui Windmills

The Bangui windmills are a series of turbines located along the coastline and offer a spectacular view of the mountains and the beach.  The windmills are also used to harness the wind and convert it to energy.  Admission is free and will make you feel that you are somewhere in Europe because of its ambiance.
3. Paoay Sand Dunes

If you are the type of person who is looking for an adventure and a once in a lifetime experience, then this is for you.  Your group will ride a 4x4 jeep as you traverse the sand dunes.  It feels like a 30 minute roller coaster ride but is definitely safe.  The place also offers an excellent view of the South China Sea.
4. Malacañang of the North
Picture
This is a mansion built by the Marcos family and shows tourists a bird’s eye view of how former President Marcos used to live given the opulence of the place.  It also offers a stunning view of Paoay Lake.
5. Pagudpud Beach - Blue Lagoon
Picture
Two hours north of Laoag City, has powder-white sand, but it’s hard to tell which is bluer: the sky or the sea. This is the second most popular stretch of white sand beach in the town of Pagudpud aside from the Saud stretch.
